January 26, 2016 :14: Sid is Listening

January 28th, 2016 by

Hey, Hey, Hey Clubbers!

How about today? That’s right. Here is the post for our last meeting. <sarcasm>Only Two Days LATE</sarcasm>. At least it didn’t take a week this time… and now, if you hadn’t been able to attend, you can enjoy all the goodness of  last Tuesday’s meeting. Some of the topics we covered are:

Paul’s Wifi problem – Using Extenders

speed tests: test my net

HD vs 4K

US Netflix blocking VPNs?

Ford integration with Alexis

…and my buddy Sid Chimed in from Alaska. (I hope we can get some more interactions like that in the future.)

Well, it was a great time. We had started 5 mins early and ran about 20 mins overtime and nobody was ready to quit. I hated shutting us down, but it gives us more to look forward to for next week’s meeting.

Thanks again,

Tech On!

December 2 Clubcast is Now Available: Ninth meeting: VPNs (again) Roku/Netflix, ChromeBox/Book, Smart TVs, Black Friday sales, and even a Spanish lesson at the beginning

December 2nd, 2014 by

Hi Clubbers,

I hope everyone had a good holiday. I hope it was ful of friends, family, and turkey.

We started recording our meeting a little early today. The conversation is very random and includes some Spanish lessons. If our pre-meeting dialog is too much for you, then just fast forward to the start of our meeting (at 7mins, 45seconds.)

We had a lot of people join us this morning. Even my folks showed up. And, for no agenda, we sure found a lot to talk about. Chromebox, Chromebooks, Roku, FireTV, Chromecast,  smartTV, Black  Friday shopping, VPNs, PhotoShop, and even more.

It was an awesome ninth meeting. If you missed it, then you can hear the recording from the link below.

You can join us at Tequila’s or you can tune in on Tuesdays (9:15-10:15am AZ time) with our chat-room and live audio stream found at http://sccClub.org.  If you want to receive this recording in iTunes then search the iTunes store for ‘The San Carlos Computer Club’.

Thanks for listening. Please leave comments and rate us in iTunes.

October 7 Club Podcast Now Available: First meeting of our new season: DirecTV, HD vs 4k vs 8k, Netflix, and Bandwidth Caps

October 7th, 2014 by

We had a good group. Started as six people then grew to seven. We spent some time on DirectTv, HD, and 4K. I shared my knowledge of bandwidth caps,  and what are their effects. The bandwidth caps is an issue that hasn’t arrived in San Carlos, but it is becoming more common in the USA. I shared some of my own personal experience with bandwidth caps using GCI cable in Anchorage.

We started a little early, and ended a little early. It was great to see everybody, and I can’t wait till next week. If you missed the meeting, and still would like to hear a conversation, then check out the link below, or look for us in iTunes (search ‘San Carlos Computer Club’) and subscribe to our podcast feed.

Thanks,

Scott, director/owner of International Computer Solutions (internationalcs.net)

February 25th, 2014 by

This is late again. Today is Club day, and I am finally posting the meeting from last week. I hope to be caught up this week.

This last meeting we spent some time talking about topics that would make a good article for the San Carlos Wireless (our new local paper.)

If you could not be with us last week, then here is your chance. You can listen to last weeks meeting right here bellow this post, or subscribe to our podcast from the iTunes store (search: The San Carlos Computer Club.)

Thanks, tech on, and I’ll see you all today at 9:15am at Tequila’s for this weeks meeting.

Netflix support info (from the Feb. 18, 2014 meeting)

February 18th, 2014 by

Hi Everybody,

It’s club day again. I come with some new roku/netflix experience that concludes that Netflix is not supported on Roku in Mexico.

Here is a link to a netflix support page that vaguely refers to this:
https://help.netflix.com/article/en/node/510?ba=GSButtonClick&q=roku%20region.

So this means no Netflix on Roku without VPN. Bummer.

Anyway, come join us at Tequila’s at 9:15am. We’ll cover this topic and more. Please bring your questions. If you can’t join us, then tune-in at our website http://sccClub.org during the meeting for the audio live stream, or later in the week after I’ve posted the recording.

Thanks,

Scott Stimson, director International Computer Solutions (internationalcs.net)
